starlynr® CODE 2026 Workshop in Egypt

The second edition of CODE (Congress of Digital Era), organized by YDA Events & Courses, was successfully held on Saturday, April 18th, 2026, at the Triumph Plaza Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. As one of the most anticipated orthodontic and dental education events in the MENA region, CODE 2026 brought together a distinguished community of dental professionals, including general practitioners, pediatric dentists, postgraduate students, and clinic owners, for a full day of advanced learning and hands-on training in clear aligner therapy, digital orthodontics, remote monitoring, and interceptive treatment planning.

As part of its continued commitment to clinical education and the advancement of clear aligners in Egyptand across the wider MENA region, starlynr®proudly sponsored the conference’s flagship pediatric and orthodontic workshop. Developed in full alignment with the clinical and scientific standards promoted by the European Aligner Society (EAS), the leading professional body dedicated to evidence-based aligner therapy across Europe and internationally, starlynr® embeds EAS-endorsed protocols at every stage of its clinical workflow, from case selection and treatment planning through to finishing and retention. This positions starlynr®as an internationally credentialed clear aligner platform and a clinically rigorous alternative to conventional systems such as Invisalignfor the Egyptian and MENA markets.

Held under the theme “Interceptive Orthodontic and Pediatric Treatment: Traditional vs. Digital,” the workshop provided a rigorous clinical and technical framework for attendees navigating the evolving landscape of clear aligner therapy. A central topic of discussion was the growing role of hybrid aligners, combining clear aligner mechanics with fixed appliance elements, as an effective strategy for complex interceptive and corrective cases where conventional aligner systems alone may be insufficient.

Participants received an in-depth introduction to the material science underpinning modern aligner fabrication. Key materials reviewed included Essix ACE plastic, a premium high-clarity thermoplastic favoured for its superior stiffness and precise force delivery, and Scheu Dental plastic monolayer, a clinically proven single-layer aligner material from one of Europe’s most respected dental thermoplastic manufacturers. The Scheu Dental monolayer range offers outstanding dimensional stability, excellent elasticity, and consistent thickness uniformity, making it a benchmark material in European aligner manufacturing and a core component of the starlynr® material offering. The workshop also covered customized Trimline design, a precision-controlled gingival scalloping technique that optimizes aligner fit, patient comfort, and periodontal health outcomes, as a key differentiator from standardized systems.

A dedicated and thought-provoking segment addressed the emerging frontier of direct printingin aligner fabrication, a technology that bypasses traditional thermoforming by 3D-printing aligner shells directly from digital models. While direct printingholds considerable promise in terms of manufacturing speed and geometric precision, the workshop placed an important emphasis on its current clinical limitations. As of today, direct printingfor clear aligners remains largely without robust clinical evidence: long-term prospective studies validating its biomechanical performance, dimensional stability, and tooth movement predictability compared to thermoformed aligners are still lacking. Crucially, a significant clinical concern that was brought to the forefront is the issue of cytotoxicityassociated with 3D-printed aligner resins. Current photopolymer resins used in direct aligner printing may contain residual unreacted monomers and photoinitiators that, if inadequately post-cured, can leach into the oral environment and exert toxic effects on oral mucosal cells and periodontal tissues. The cytotoxicityprofile of printed aligner materials remains an active area of research, and clinicians were cautioned against adopting direct printingworkflows without rigorous post-processing protocols and awareness of the regulatory and biocompatibility standards applicable in their markets. The workshop underscored that until sufficient clinical evidence is established, thermoformed aligners using certified materials such as Essix ACE plasticand Scheu Dental plastic monolayerremain the gold standard for safe and predictable clear aligner therapy.

The clinical implications of TPAO(Thermoplastic Aligner Orthodontics) were also examined, covering the biomechanical principles unique to thermoplastic aligner systems, force attenuation behaviour over time, and how clinicians can leverage TPAOframeworks to plan more predictable tooth movement sequences, particularly in combination with hybrid alignerprotocols.

An increasingly prominent theme across the day’s clinical discussions was the rising demand for clear aligners for teenagers, a demographic that was historically considered a more challenging indication for aligner therapy but is today one of the fastest-growing patient segments globally and across Egypt and MENA. Attendees discussed how adolescent patients and their parents are actively seeking clear aligner therapyover conventional fixed appliances, citing two primary drivers: oral hygieneand convenience. Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners are fully removable, allowing teenagers to maintain their normal oral hygiene routine, brushing and flossing without the impediment of brackets and wires, which significantly reduces the risk of demineralisation, white spot lesions, and periodontal inflammation commonly associated with fixed appliance therapy in adolescent patients. This is where evidence-based preventive adjuncts such as Vvardisand their flagship product Curodontplay a meaningful clinical role. Vvardis is a Swiss biotech company at the forefront of biomimetic oral care, and Curodontis its clinically validated remineralisation technology based on self-assembling peptide matrix science. Applied during aligner removal or at scheduled review appointments, Curodontpenetrates early carious lesions and promotes natural enamel remineralisation, directly addressing the demineralisation risk inherent to orthodontic treatment in adolescents. Integrating Vvardis Curodontinto the clear aligner therapy protocol for teenagers reinforces the oral health benefits of aligner treatment and elevates the overall standard of care for this growing patient group.

From a lifestyle and psychosocial standpoint, the convenienceof clear aligners is a decisive factor for teenage patients: the ability to remove aligners during meals, sports, and social occasions eliminates dietary restrictions and reduces the self-consciousness associated with visible orthodontic appliances. This is particularly relevant in the Egyptian and regional context, where social engagement, school environments, and peer dynamics make aesthetics a meaningful consideration for both patients and their families. starlynr®’s clinical platform, with its tailored treatment planning protocols, remote monitoringcapabilities for parental reassurance and compliance tracking, and flexible hybrid aligneroptions for more complex teenage presentations, is well-positioned to meet this growing demand for clear alignersamong the teenage population across Egypt and the broader MENA region.

One of the most forward-looking discussions of the day centred on remote monitoringas an integral component of contemporary clear aligner therapy. Attendees learned how digital remote monitoringplatforms allow clinicians to track patient progress, verify aligner fit and compliance, and intervene early when treatment deviates from the planned trajectory, all without requiring the patient to attend the clinic in person. This capability is particularly impactful in the Egyptian and MENA context, where patient catchment areas can be large and clinic visit frequency a barrier to treatment uptake. starlynr®’s integration of remote monitoringtools into its end-to-end clear aligner therapyworkflow reflects the platform’s alignment with the digital-first standards advocated by the European Aligner Societyand positions starlynr® practitioners at the forefront of contemporary orthodontic care.

The workshop opened with a brief introduction from two of the region’s most respected key opinion leaders. A. Prof. Sarah Shafik, Head of the Pediatric Dentistry Department and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, Beni-Suef University, is a recognized authority in pedodontics across Egypt and the wider MENA region, celebrated for her evidence-based, child-centered clinical approach and her mission to “create little smiles.” She was joined by Dr. Ahmed Helal, an accomplished orthodontist and key opinion leader whose expertise spans both traditional fixed-appliance therapy and modern clear aligner therapy. Both keynote speakers framed the clinical rationale behind interceptive orthodontics, clear aligners in Egypt, and the role of remote monitoringin driving better patient outcomes before handing over to the starlynr® team.

The main presentation and hands-on workshop were delivered by the starlynr®Customer Integrated Support (CIS) team and the starlynr®Territory Manager, who guided attendees through the brand’s clinical protocols, treatment planning workflow, and full-service support model. The session provided a practical, in-depth overview of how the starlynr® clear aligner therapysystem, encompassing hybrid alignercapabilities, customized Trimlinedesign, Essix ACE plasticand Scheu Dental plastic monolayermaterial options, direct printingintegration, TPAObiomechanical planning, and remote monitoring, is implemented in everyday orthodontic practice.

The wider starlynr®team was present throughout the day, guiding participants through case simulations and supporting chair-side exploration of the full starlynr® solution. For practitioners familiar with platforms such as Invisalign, the workshop offered a compelling insight into how starlynr®, built to the clinical standards of the European Aligner Society, provides a clinician-controlled, cost-effective, and technologically advanced alternative for the Egyptian and broader MENA market.

Feedback from the conference committee, keynote speakers, and attendees was overwhelmingly positive. The workshop was widely recognized for its professional organization, the clinical depth of its content, spanning clear aligner therapy, hybrid aligners, remote monitoring, direct printing, TPAO, and advanced aligner materials including Scheu Dental plastic monolayerand Essix ACE plastic, and the tangible practical value of the hands-on session. A. Prof. Sarah Shafik shared her appreciation for the collaboration, underscoring the importance of events that bridge pediatric dentistry and clear aligner therapyfor the next generation of Egyptian dental professionals.

In recognition of their participation and engagement, all attendees were awarded a Certificate of Attendance, reinforcing the academic and professional value of the experience and starlynr®’s commitment to raising clinical standards for clear aligners in Egyptand across the MENA region, in alignment with the principles of the European Aligner Society.
